"I am floating in a ship, with no crew alive" --King Gradlon

Man, I found this a thumpingly-good little folk-tale, brought to vivid life via these pages.

Hmm, Lady Malgven’s horse, able to ride across the shifting waves of the sea! oO

Perhaps what we’re looking at here is the foundation of an ancient, classic Atlantis?

Cooperation is key across almost all these matters! (shoot)

Heroic deeds done, and now what?

The artist here is French-Canadian Jo Rioux, and this is a classic Celtic-Breton tale that I’d not not previously had the pleasure of.

Indeed, I found it rather wonderful. It’s called in some parts “Daughters of Ys,” and here’re some sources thanks to @https://piefed.social/u/calamitycastle@lemmy.world:

This is beautiful! Is this an excerpt of a larger work or compendium?

As a side note, its would be nice on these posts to have a link through to the artist website or publisher.

In fact I usually do include as much extra info as I can, but a combination of things that day persuaded me to get this one out the door, so I could go back to lying down and groaning about health issues & current events.

Not to mention, altho the subject matter is indeed Euro folklore, this one was American-produced, by "First Second Books" out of NYC.

TBH, I'm kind of tired of people giving me grief for posting stuff that is 'only' Euro-adjacent, especially when they haven't read the sidebar. So... you know, motivation also plays a part.

Plus, as both the community founder, only remaining mod, and primary content-creator, at times I'm going to kind of slack off depending on what's going on in my life. After 2+yrs putting in hundreds of hours of work in to this project, I do feel like I've done my part in launching this community into the Fediverse.

Heh, sorry for the mini-rant. 🙂

"why you posting only that Europe stuff in eurographicnovels?"
Really? 😟

Heh, all good, and understandable.

It's indeed called The Daughters of Ys, as mentioned at the end. A self-contained work of 206pp, with the scriptwriter being M.T. Anderson. Both he and Rioux seem to produce children's and all-ages media. So far, I've found this and Rioux' ongoing Cat's Cradle GN series to be quite excellent.

Awesome! Thanks for posting. Interestimg the writer is M.T. Anderson, ai only know him from Feed which is very different indeed.

The art style somehow reminds me of Adventure Time.

Haha, yeah, I get that.

She's for certain not the only one who works in this style across both sides of the pond. I can't really call it a subgenre of LC, but there's an influence there. Kinda wish it had a name, because I do love it and would enjoy seeing more.

Looking at the illustrator's stated influences, it seems like the style is collected around colored pencil illustrators who work predominantly in children's books. This makes sense to me as some of the stylistic elements could be seen as adapting to the limitations on gradients with faster colored pencil/pastel work. I also wish there was a good tagable descriptor for the style, as it is one I like a lot.

Interesting. Yeah, makes sense to me. I think I was going to describe how her art hit me in the post, but forgot. There's also some crayon-like effects which I really liked in this one.

Pretty amazing when you compare it to Cat's Cradle, in which her style is significantly different. So she's adapting to various subject matter, and for me, it's impressive and quite pleasing to see.

Interesting tale, but unless it's a pseudonym, this totally looks like Kate Beaton.

In fact, I've seen a few artists (mostly Euro) who work in this style. (and I love it)

Perhaps it's all one person at core, but based on my research, they're legit individual artists that you can usually find at Lambiek. Altho yes, here & there across the body of LC artists, some will credit themselves by different pseudonyms for different reasons.

Jean Giraud of course famously went by his own name as well as Mœbius, Gir, Moeby and another one I can't remember right now. Very rarely that I'm aware of do such artists make any real secret of it, tho.

Beautiful, I love the colors and the style. <3
