In order to deceive Nazi Germany about the real target of the D-Day invasion, the Allies dropped literally tons of aluminium foil strips (then codenamed "Window", now known as Chaff) from aircraft to create the appearance of a large fleet moving across the English Channel towards Calais on German Radar screens just before the actual invasion started

Context (Source): Early in 1943, Allied forces were massing along the coast of North Africa, preparing to make a push across the Mediterranean. They’d settled on strategically important Sicily as a target… but they needed to convince the Germans that they were aiming somewhere else.

Context: Sir Cumming suggested the Secret Service Bureau use semen as invisible ink. This lead to his agents adopting the motto “Every man his own stylo” - A stylo being a fountain pen. Eventually the use of semen was stopped due to the smell giving it away.

Context: The Jallianwala Bagh massacre was carried out by British forces, with an estimate of 379-1,500 killed. Those killed were involved in a gathering of people to celebrate the Baisakhi festival and protest the Rowlatt Act - A law that allowed any Indian person to be arrested on suspicion, in an effort to stop a growing independence movement.

Context: The Pietá is a marble statue carved by Michelangelo that sits in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. It is considered to be one of Michelangelo’s greatest works and one of the greatest sculptures of all time.
